NCRPO Operation “Shock And Awe” Intensified Amid Community Quarantine In Metro Manila

The National Capital Region Police Office under the leadership of PMGEN DEBOLD M SINAS lauds the accomplishments of the NCRPO Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit relative to the implementation of “Shock And Awe” operations in Metro Manila.

Operation “Shock and Awe” originated from Police Regional Office 7 during the time of PMGEN SINAS as the Regional Director therein. It was adapted and launched by NCRPO in 2019 through its special reaction unit, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).

The operation involves the conduct of security and safety coverage, police visibility and panelling operations which aims to thwart inimical plans and terrorist acts in support to the territorial units of NCRPO.

Before the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in the Metro encompassing a period of more than 2 months relatively from January 1 to March 14, 2020, NCRPO was able to conduct a total of 4, 252 operations wherein a total of 199 unexploded explosive ordnances were recovered.

When the enhanced community quarantine was implemented from March 15, 2020 to April 30, 2020, a total of 2,872 operations were conducted and a total of 14 unexploded explosive ordnances were recovered.

The apparent increase in the conduct of operations reflect NCRPO’s commitment to keep the Metro safe from all forms of criminality. Hence, Shock and Awe Operations are continuously being conducted strategically in various vital installations in Metro Manila to include the lines of MRT and LRT stations, NAIA Terminals, Lake/Seaports, Bus terminal, Schools, Churches and other Public and Private Establishments.

The recent challenges and complexities brought by CoViD 19 pandemic in the implementation of policing strategies did not hinder NCRPO EOD to invigorate the conduct of its anti-criminality activities and endeavours.

Consequently, during the implementation of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine from May 1 to 30, 2020, a total of 2,326 operations were conducted recovering a total of 33 unexploded explosive devices.

Despite the successful implementation of initiatives to keep the Metro Safe, NCRPO however did not lax in its laurels. Towards this end, upon the downgrading of the community quarantine to General Community Quarantine, a total of 5,770 operations were conducted and around 20 unexploded explosive ordnances were recovered.

Meanwhile, considering the number of unexploded explosive devices being recovered, NCRPO EOD came up with another breakthrough called the “Bomb Basket”. It is a mobile equipment developed puposely to contain the blast pressure and fragmentation when detonating IEDs and other explosives.

It greatly increased the operational capability of NCRPO to respond to bomb related scenarios in the Metro further guaranteeing safety of persons, properties and police officers involved in the conduct of “Shock and Awe” operations.

“I commend the diligent effort of our EOD to come up with this “Bomb Basket” equipment designed to ensure safe detonation of IEDs and other explosives being recovered during shock and awe operations. I am elated for the dedication and commitment being shown by our men in the conduct of invigorated shock and awe operations to ensure that the Metro is safe from all forms of criminality and illegal drugs,” said PMGEN SINAS.
