RSOU NCR & Paranaque police foil bank robbery in Parañaque City; 2 nabbed

Elements of the NCRPO Regional Special Operations Unit and Parañaque City Police Station foiled an after-bank withdrawal robbery attempt and arrested 2 suspects at the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) branch along Kabihasnan Road in Parañaque City at about 5:00pm of July 12, 2019.

According to NCRPO Regional Director PMGEN GUILLERMO LORENZO T ELEAZAR, the suspected would be robbers were identified as Joven Subong y Pineda, 35 years old, married, unemployed, and Ronald Sulde y Lanzon, 40 years old, married, construction worker, both residents of San Juan De Coastal, Brgy San Dionisio, Parañaque City who have allegedly links to a group involved in several robberies in Metro Manila.

The operation stimulated from the information of a reliable informant that members of a criminal gang engaged in after bank withdrawal robbery incidents along the main thoroughfares of Parañaque and Las Piñas City are planning to rob the cashier of LOGISTICS CARGO AND BROKERAGE CORPORATION.

Consequently, the operatives was immediately deployed to preempt the robbery and ultimately save the would-be victims from the possible harm that the suspects may pose against innocent individuals. At about 5:00 in the afternoon of July 12, 2019, while the said establishment is about to close, and the would-be victim was about to leave, 4 male persons clad in shorts were seen to be prepositioning themselves to perpetrate a criminal activity. With this, the operatives decided to make a careful advance to preempt the robbery wherein one of the suspected would-be robber was seen to have in his possession an unknown caliber of firearm where its handle was already protruding after the suspect made a hurried gesture of making an action toward his would-be victim. Thereafter, the operatives leaped into action to prevent the suspect from assaulting the innocent victims.

The suspect was immediately subdued by the operatives from whose possession is unlicensed .45 caliber firearm without any markings or serial number was confiscated. He was later identified as JOVEN SUBONG y PINEDA. Meanwhile, his companion who was driving the getaway vehicle, a single motor without plate number was also accosted. He was later identified as ROLANDO SULDE y LANZON. The other suspects riding in separate single motorcycle hurriedly left the place and escaped from the operatives.

A cellular phone marked SAMSUNG was confiscated from the possession of SUBONG. It contains exchange of text messages showing their clear intention of robbing the victim confirming the fact that they were indeed members of a criminal gang engaged in after bank withdrawal robberies where their victims are being waylaid along the main thoroughfares of the City. The single motorcycle without plate number was also placed under the custody of NCRPO Regional Special Operations Unit for further verification with the concerned office whether or not subject getaway vehicle is legally owned or possessed.

Operatives also recovered from Subong a government ID (BIR TIN Number) bearing his real name WILLIE LOPEZ y PRECIA and it was later revealed that he intentionally conceals his true name inorder to evade criminal prosecution of this incident.

Meanwhile, the would-be victims were safely escorted by the operatives towards their office. The cashier of the LOGISTICS CARGO AND BROKERAGE CORPORATION was contacted for formal inquiry to uncover the other possible suspects in this foiled robbery attempt, however, a certain Atty. WILSON FALCOTELO, the counsel for the company volunteered to assist the NCRPO Regional Special Operations Unit in the investigation of this incident.

The suspects were immediately brought to the office of NCRPO Regional Special Operations Unit for proper documentation and disposition.

Criminal complaints for violation of Article 306 (Brigandage) of the Revised Penal Code is being prepared against the arrested suspects while a separate criminal complaint for Violation of RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearm) and Presidential Decree 1829 (Obstruction of Justice) will be filed against JOVEN SUBONG whose real name is WILLIE LOPEZ y PRECIA which was divulged when the operatives recovered a government ID (BIR TIN Number) from his possession.
