SPD Buy Bust Ops Resulting To An Armed Encounter In Taguig City

Combined anti-drug efforts of the District Drug Enforcement Unit and District Intelligence Division of Southern Police District along with the elements of Police Station 6- Taguig City Police Station conducted an anti illegal drug buy bust operation at about 4: 00 pm of May 10, 2020 which started at Vista Mall Parking, Brgy. Ususan, Taguig City and ended at Lot.5 Orioles Bend, Bay Breeze Executive Subdivision, Brgy. Hagonoy, Taguig City.

The operatives positively identified the suspects as Louie Jo S. Ong aka “ONG”, 28 years old, with live in partner, buy and sell businessman and a resident of Barangay Tipas Taguig City; and Kevin Jake C. Espiritu aka “Kevin/Duday”, 27 years old, with live in partner, buy and sell businessman and a resident of Barangay Palingon, Taguig City.

Operation stemmed from the information given by a confidential informant who personally appeared at the office of District Drug Enforcement Unit of Southern Police District.

The arrest was made through the buy-bust operation conducted wherein an operative acted as a poseur buyer. However, after the said transaction, suspect noticed that they were dealing with a Police Operative. Suspect Espiritu suddenly pulled out a firearm and fired at the approaching operatives, prompting other operatives to defend their fellow. While in the process of scuffle, the suspects on board a green colored Honda Civic vehicle fled and escaped going to Bay Breeze Exceutive Subdivision, Brgy. Hagonoy, Taguig City. A car chase ensued that eventually resulted in the arrest of Ong.

Further investigation disclosed that Ong and Espiritu are both included in the drug watchlist, and are responsible in the proliferation of illegal drugs in Taguig City and other nearby cities.

Recovered at the scene were:

a) 1 pc Large Size heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing crystalline substance suspected shabu with estimated weight more or less 100 grams (Recovered by SOCO, SPD) ;

b) 1 Unit FA caliber 380 loaded with five live ammo without markings (Recovered by SOCO, SPD)

c) 2 pc Five Hundred peso bill (Buy Bust Money) Bundled with Boodle Money;

d) 1pc Samsung Cellphone S7 Android;

e) 1 pc leather wallet color black;

f) assorted ID’s of the suspects placed inside Sling bag color black;

g) One (1) Unit Suzuki Raider Motorcycle Color Black/Gold;


h) One (1) Unit Honda Civic Vehicle

A total of 100 grams of suspected shabu was confiscated with a street value amounting to Php 680, 000.00.

Suspect Espiritu was rushed to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for medical treatment but was later declared ‘dead on arrival’.

Seized illegal items are now at SPD Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis while suspect Ong is under the custody of Police Station 6.

Criminal Complaints for violation of Sections 5 & 26, Article II of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and violation of RA 10591 (Illegal Possesion of Firearms) will be referred to Prosecutor’s office against the arrested suspect and the deceased.
